Free Ringtones

There are a lot of things to do with your celphone, like download and play Java games, or open a document using your phone, even browse the Internet. Mobile phones are now flexible and very customizable to match your mood, personality and style. There are a lot of cellphone cases and covers, cellphone accessories and cellphone bags. Mobile phone providers also provide their customers with Java games or ringtones so each cellphone has its own individuality. As a matter of fact, there are free Sprint ringtones for loyal subscribers, so each phone is customized.

Free ringtone downloads are very easy to find, but finding quality ones are difficult. I find that free Verizon ringtones are quite good so Verizon subscribers have great ringtones available for them.

One should also be careful in downloading ringtones from the Internet from sources that looks not so safe. Some websites claim they provide free ringtones but they ask for your credit card, which eventually gets charged without your knowledge.

Free t-mobile ringtones are also good, and you are sure that you only get ringtones from reliable sources. Or if you are an AT&T subscriber, free at&t ringtones are also available for download. Contact your provider for further information on how to get your free ringtones.

Thanksgiving Day 2008

Today we celebrate the beginning of a colorful and festive season of gift-giving, and for the the majority of women, shopping. Thanksgiving Day is the one day in the year when we, humans, partake in the massacre of thousands of poor turkeys. Ooopps, I mean we partake in the celebration where we reminisce history.

With that said, let us not forget the true spirit of Thanksgiving, that we should be thankful for everything that we have, good or bad, and share all the blessings with others. We also should remember that this is the time in the year that we spend with our families and friends, and to put our Black Berry devices and/or office work aside to give more time for our family. Nothing beats a quality time with your child and spouse, believe me.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, may I also suggest that we stop the killing of thousands of turkeys on this day. President Bush has pardoned two turkeys this year, so that is a good start to stop the massacre of these poor birds. No wonder the birds look so sad on Thanksgiving.

Anyway, to give a perspective of how Thanksgiving begins, Governor Palin would like you to see how turkeys reach your tables.

Saving Digital Media with Nero

Burning files to digital optical media is not new to me, but looking for the best DVD disc is difficult to do. I only go for the best media because my data is more valuable than a $0.50 DVD-R disc. In other words, the data I keep in these dics are priceless.

In order to be able to save my priceless data to the disc, a burning software is in order. One popular brand is Nero, which I have used since I was able to burn files to CD’s. I even remember how cool I was for having a CD writer drive when the rest of my class are still using floppy disks. If you want to try out Nero’s full array of burning software, you can check their list of products of ripping, copying and bakcup products. Nero 7 free download is also available for those who want to try their products without commitment, which is good if you want to see if a particular burning product is for you. Multimedia solutions are also there if you want a all-in-one product for ripping and burning movies or music CD’s.

Nero also has backup software available so you can backup your files in one easy step, which is very useful for me. And did I mention that I love Nero?

Geek’s Guide to Gift Giving

Christmas is getting near and giving gifts is an activity that is inevitable during the holiday seasons. One must go through the rite of passage by rushing to the mall and beating the holiday panic which includes annoying people, crying children and the Christmas traffic.

But since the thing called the Internet is already here, no need to leave your house. Or your chair for that matter. Christmas gifts ideas are one Google away but if you want a very unique geeky gift, vintage is the way to go.

Website The Collectors Weekly has the list of vintage computer equipment that you can get your little hands on. Most stuff are on eBay so you won’t have any problems ordering one.

One example: Remember how a computer looks like in 1980’s? Here’s to refresh your memory:

Casio PC 1980

This is a 1980 Casio Personal Computer FA-10 being sold at eBay. Great addition to your arsenal of geeky treasure.

I am planning of giving away 1.44 MB Floppy disks to friends. They are vintage, are they not?

Madagascar Penguins: A Christmas Caper

I always find penguins to be extremely cute and fascinating. Not only they are the symbol of my favorite OS in the world, they also procreate in ways unimaginable. The four penguins in the animated film Madagascar are also hilarious. I even have the McDonald’s Skipper toy because I can’t pass the chance to add another penguin to my collection.

I watched Madagascar 2 and the penguins are still the funniest creature in the film. And just in time for Christmas, I recently found that in 2005, a short film was made and the stars are the four penguins: Skipper, Private, Kowalski and Rico.

Here is a video of the funny short film Madagascar Penguins A Christmas Caper. Note Skipper’s witty lines. :)

HTTP Port

Apache is a powerful program to use in powering up a web site. Like any other service, it uses its own port to identify it from the rest of the thousands of services available. But if a typical system administrator needs to set up a firewall, a better understandng of how ports work, and which port is for what service and how it passes through the network.

Apache typically uses port 80 for unsecured connection and port 443 for secured connection and these ports can be enabled or disabled in a firewall, either iptables or hardware firewall. Being flexible that Apache is, setting the port can be done within the configuration file of Apache, httpd.conf.

More details can be found about ports scattered around the internet, and one website is http://pc-library.com. The site gives detailed information about a port like what program uses it. You can also find information about computer errors like error 632. The site also offers information how to solve such error, saving lots of system administrators from losing their sanity.

Knowing how ports and programs work together will save a great deal of time and sanity for network and system administrators. And knowing that a website exists will help thousands of administrators is sure good to know.

My October Earnings from Adbrite

I just received from my snail mailbox a beautiful cheque from Adbrite. It is my payout for the month of October. I never really do anything with my Adbrite account, except to leave it running in my granadocentral.com website. It is not much, but you can’t get $40 that easy nowadays.

Gmail Themes Adds A Lil’ Something

I am a simple person who requires no less than a simple layout for my mailbox. I would rather shy away from frills and lace and candies that adorn my mailbox or workspace, unless I want to induce a massive headache. A headache that would make me visit the office clinic to get a written note to allow to me to go home and rest. Ah, that would be nice thing to do tomorrow…

Anyway, Gmail has a new feature which allows you to customize the way your mailbox looks. I suppose this is not yet available to all users as of this writing, but I am sure it will be. The themes are available in your Settings Panel in Gmail, under the Themes tab.

gmail_themes_1

I personally prefer the the Teahouse Theme, which dynamically changes based on time of the day. You can actually see the little fox do his chores around the dojo, depending on the time. He is picking sunflowers as I write this. And he is so cute. Kawaii! Some of the themes are also the same themes that can be found in customizing your iGoogle page.

gmail_themes_2

One thing I noticed is that the themes are not yet customizable, like how we customize our Friendster and MySpace profile. Maybe Google has plans of doing it.

No, I do not have a headache - yet. My head is still perfectly fine. And I love my theme. I would probably use this forever.

Web Hosting Reviews

If you are looking for a great web hosting provider, then you are probably going nuts over which one is the best. There are a lot of companies who have been serving web sites for years and earned credibility for the services they provide, but just as any other business, startup web hosting companies begin to increase in numbers, resulting in a massive surge of numbers of web hosting providers.

And not all of them are great. Some even were reported to Better Business Bureau for failing to achieve the customer satisfaction that was promised. Pre-sales support are getting better but after-sales support will get you in in a coma in seconds. Horror stories are also everywhere, from one customer who got his account suspended for no reason at all, to a guy who got his credit card charged with hundreds of dollars of “web services” that he never used. Not to mention the risk of getting your website hacked, compromising your data.

If you want to do research for a particular website hosting company, head to webhostinggeeks.com and browse through their list of web hosting providers. The site also have tips on how to get started in building your first website and help you find the right provider for you.
