Nintendo Wii is a spectacular gaming console that revolutionized how console gaming works by using remote controllers, giving the players more variety than the ordinary controls. And many technology buffs like to research and experiment different other uses with the Wii Remote, other than as a game controller.

Researcher Johnny Lee takes a $40 Wii Remote and cheap hardware, and turns it to a digital whiteboard and a 3D viewer eye-glasses, among other things. That is how flexible the Wii Remote is.

Watch this video as Johnny demonstrates the Wii Hacks:

The great thing about the Wii remote lies in its design. The motion sensors inside each Wii remote (or Wiimote) makes it flexible for other uses other than just being a game controller. As a game controller, it can be a golf club or a bowling glove and makes a game more interactive and puts more ‘real action rather than pressing buttons. Put in a modified hardware, which is available from any hobby or electronic shop, slap in some free software and you got yourself a whole new gadget.

One thing I can think of as another use for the Wiimote is how you can use it as navigation system for visually impaired people. Since the Wiimote uses motion sensors, it can be modified to use as a simple navigation system and alerts the user for possible road obstacles like passing cars. I tried searching if there are any available documents on the net about this, but nothing came up yet. Maybe I ought to contact Johnny Lee about my idea.

Two decades have passed since the demonic denizens, Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal, wandered the world of Sanctuary in a vicious rampage to shackle humanity into unholy slavery. Yet for those who battled the Prime Evils directly, the memory fades slowly and the wounds of the soul still burn.

When Deckard Cain returns to the ruins of Tristram’s Cathedral seeking clues to new stirrings of evil, a comet from the heavens strikes the very ground where Diablo once entered the world. The comet carries a dark omen in its fiery being and it calls the heroes of Sanctuary to defend the mortal world against the rising powers of the Burning Hells – and even the failing luminaries of the High Heavens itself.

Battle For Westnoth rocks and yes, it is one of the best games that ever developed for Linux. But Tux Racer on the 6th place? I may have to disagree on that one. Tux Racer is teh game! Super addictive and for me, beats Battle for Westnoth by a mile.

The makers of World of Warcraft are locked in a legal battle with a firm that has produced a tool to automate many actions in the virtual world. Blizzard is suing Michael Donnelly, the creator of the MMO Glider program, which performs key tasks in the game automatically, such as fighting.

Both sides have submitted legal summaries to a court in Arizona.

Blizzard says Glide is a software bot which infringes the company’s copyright and potentially damages the game.

In its legal submission to the court last week, the firm said: “Blizzard’s designs expectations are frustrated, and resources are allocated unevenly, when bots are introduced into the WoW universe, because bots spend far more time in-game than an ordinary player would and consume resources the entire time.”

‘Infringed agreement’

Blizzard argued that Michael Donnelly’s tool also infringed the End User License Agreement that all parties have to adhere to when playing the game.

More than 100,000 copies of the tool have been sold, according to Mr Donnelly. More than 10 million people around the world play Warcraft.

Mr Donnelly said the first time had had been aware of potential legal action over his program was when a lawyer from Vivendi games, which publishes Warcraft, and an “unnamed private investigator” appeared at his home.

In his legal submission, he detailed: “When they arrived, they presented Donnelly with a copy of a complaint that they indicated would be filed the next day in the US District Court for the Central District of California if Donnelly did not immediately agree to stop selling Glider and return all profits that he made from Glider sales.”

“Blizzard’s audacious threats offended Donnelly,” according to the legal papers.

Mr Donnelly says his tool does not infringe Blizzard’s copyright because no “copy” of the Warcraft game client software is ever made.

Blizzard has said the tool infringes copyright because it copies the game into RAM in order to avoid detection by anti-cheat software.

The two parties are now awaiting a summary judgement in the case.

Poker is the best card game and very fun to play especially with your friends. There are also some who play high-stakes poker and win lots of money. But for me, poker is a great way to pass time in hot sunny afternoon or a night with cold beer and of course, friends. And if you want to play poker but your friends are not available, you can always join PokerDIY League - an online poker community that lets you play with fellow enthusiasts all over the world, join communities and meet people near your area who enjoys poker like you do. You can also start and manage your own league or just simply join an existing game.

New to poker? PokerDIY provides practice games for free so you can sharpen that skills. It can also double as a social networking site because you can also add friends to your list and maybe you will meet someone who lives within your area. It also has a Look Busy! link that opens an excel spreadsheet on your screen, covering up your screen. Very useful if you are bored in the office but does not want to get caught by the boss.

So join in on one of thousands of ongoing poker games - registration is free - and have fun playing. Good luck!

While doing some Internet searching, I have come across an anime website that streams videos of your favorite anime shows. One anime caught my attention as it is one of my most favorite games of all time. It is an OVA of Final Fantasy VII or FF7 entitled Final Fantasy: Last Order. To those who don’t play RPG games, FFVII tells a story of Cloud, an ex-Soldier who crosses an evil empire of Shinra Inc., as he attempts to stop the company from draining Earth’s energy. Battling against bizarre creatures and teaming up with allies is the heart of the gameplay, making the player not only as an observer, but also part of the story itself.

Now moving forward, watching the movie made me want to play the game again. That made me an official FF series junkie. But how am I going to play the game without plugging in our antique PlayStation (not PS2) console? With all my PC stuff plugged in, there is no way in the world that I can plug another device here in my room (I prefer peace and quiet while I wander the grounds of Midgar, thank you very much). Here comes a special how-to of how to emulate your PS console into your PC.

Disclaimer: The author is not liable for any actions that the reader might perform that might violate anti-piracy laws. This article is purely for informative purposes only.

Just follow these basic steps and you will never go wrong:

1. Start off my downloading a PSX Emulator for your operating system called ePSXe. ePSXe is available for Windows, Mac and Linux users. For the purpose of this tutorial, we will use Windows for our platform.

2. Unzip the file to any location of your choice, for example: C:\PS Emulator

3. This is the hard part. In order to use the emulator, you will need a BIOS file from the PS console itself. I will not disclose how to get the BIOS file as it is a proprietary software owned by Sony. You can however, extract the BIOS file from your console and there are articles on how you can do this.

4. After you get the BIOS files, it is now time to put everything together. Put your BIOS file inside the PS Emulator\bios folder. You will also need to get some plugins so I suggest that you visit the following links:

Video Plugin
Sound Plugin
CD Plugin
Input Plugin

After you download the plugins, extract the files in your PS Emulator\plugins folder.

5. Run the ePSXe.exe file and complete the wizard setup using these configurations:- Choose Pete’s video plugin for your graphic card. Select Config and press “Nice” button.
- Choose Pete’s Sound plugin and press next.
- Choose Pete’s CD plugin (P.E.Op.S. CDR Drive). Press Config, select your interface which is just the drive letter of your CDROM drive (like D. Also, choose “Raw reading” if you are running W2K or XP.

6. After you complete the setup, pop in CD 1 of FF7 in your CD drive, select File > Run CDROM. If everything goes right, as it did for me, you should be able to play FF7 on your PC (Yay!)

That’s the gist of it. Remember that some files in this tutorial are proprietary sofwares so make sure you are not violating any anti-piracy laws when you decide to emulate your PS console on your PC.
