It’s been a very busy month for me. I have two projects at work involving two top 10 sites of our company and it was very hectic. But, I am so glad that the projects are now over, both successful.

It may seem that I will have more time to blog but unfortunately, I will be taking a three-week course of trainings in preparation for the Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) Certification Exam. I may post tips here from time to time to help aspiring Linux users but I cannot promise that it will be as it is written in the training manuals. Contents of training manuals are copyrighted and being a Linux user, we all know better what copyrighted means

Anyway, wish me luck in my training and exams. I need all the luck I can get

PinoyTux Reaches 20,000 Visits!

When I started this blog, I have never imagined that I would reach a wide variety of readers from all across the world. And now, PinoyTux celebrates the day that it reaches 20,000 visits since SiteMeter was installed (April 2008).

Not only I have made PinoyTux as my online journal and blog containing my Linux tips, tricks and notes but I also made quite a few bucks from blogging reviews, advertising links and online advertisements specifically from Google Adsense. And from the additional income that I made from my online blog, I have bought a few items. But what I really want to buy is a turbocharger for my car.

A turbocharger is definitely a must-add for my brand new ride and luckily found a site called turbochargerpros.com that sells one that fits my car, among other brands for different car makes and models like audi turbocharger. Having a turbocharger in your car, if installed correctly, breathes a new life to your ride by adding more horsepower and torque and adding fuel efficiency as well. So I know that with rising gas prices, a good turbocharger is a big help

Anyway, I am glad that letting more people know about Linux and technology using my blog and I hope that I can continue providing more Linux tutorials and tips to my readers.

Yep… No kidding. SiteMeter shows that since March 30, 2008, more than 10,000 visitors have visited PinoyTux.com. On the average, PT has over 140 unique visitors with over 200 page hits average per day.

New Home, New Life

I am now moving to a new home and doing so, I may not be able to post as much as I did before because I have to request for a new DSL line. However, I will try to post new content if the situation allows me to, like bugging my brother to let me use his computer at home so I could post my articles.

Anyway, although I have said that I am moving to a new place, I have not yet found a new apartment. Sounds confusing, right? I will not divulge further details, so just go with flow. (Repeat after me, go with flooowww… )

Let me tell you what I am looking for in a apartment. I like a simple place, without too many rooms - one or two bedrooms will work, and of course I would love a nice view of the city from the inside with enough sunshine and air. And once I find that perfect place, setting the theme is next.

My plan is to make the place a nice cozy home, with a touch of modern Japanese interior. I am such a sucker for anything Japanese - Japanese food, furniture, art, animation, etc., so the Japanese inspiration goes to my home interior as well. A little coffee table and nice black couch with soft indoor lights should do the trick. Japanese-inspired deco are also in order to complete the Asian look.

I would like to have a nice clean home not only on the inside, but on the outside as well. So the Japanese interior should match the outside part of the place as well. The outside should have a nice little spot for a few potted plants, although I am not a person with a green thumb, and outdoor saltillo tile to compliment the theme. We are using tiles in our current place so I would like to use the same material to my new home since tiles are easy to clean and nice to look at. And there is no place to get high-quality tiles like South Texas Saltillo Connection. It’s been a long time since I have started this blog but this is the first time that I am going to run a contest for my readers. I hope that this contest is going to be a successful one, though

As a result of their utterly poor and hellish service, I decided to cancel my account to them and asked them for a refund. buzzmyblog.com has an online script that can help me with picking the winners in the fairest manner. I decided to use a third party software/script so that the drawing of the winner is transparent to all.

Termites, FTW

This is an interesting story that I got from news.bbc.co.uk about a man from India who hid his money and some important investment papers in a safe in India’s government-owned bank thinking that his retirement money is safe. Safe from robbers, yes, but not from wood-eating termites.

What used to be moneyDwarika Prasad trusted his money worth 450,000 rupees ($11,000) in cold cash and some investment papers and jewelries in a safe box in Central Bank of India. When he opened the box last January, he found what used to be valuable money, now only perforated papers and termite dust. The valuable items were first deposited last September 2005.

The bad news is yet to come. Central Bank of India claims they are not liable for any loss because of the termites. They said they put up a notice to warn customers about the termite problem and the valuable items stored should be removed. Prasad was not able to receive the notice and was a little too late to get his items from the box.

The bank further claims that since the box has not been broken, Prasad is not entitled to any compensation from the bank.

PinoyTux gets a new makeover once again!

See the big difference in layout? Thanks to Alving Phang’s Atomic Blogging Theme, I managed to organize the layout of the blog and optimize each space of the blog for better reading layout.
