Identity Theft Still A Security Threat
Internet provides thousands of information right at your fingertips, useful for simple tasks like doing homework to more complicated services like GPS tracking. While this is a very convenient piece of technology, it can also be used as a tool for various degrees of crimes from credit card theft to murder. As a matter of fact, Federal Trade Commission reports that identity theft tops the list of complaints for seven consecutive years. This report alone tells us that identity theft is a serious issue that we must all be aware of.
Identity theft can lead you to serious trouble if you are not careful. Your name can be used by someone doing crimes and the worst part is, you could be framed for a crime that you did not do. This is because someone got hold of your name and maybe your social security number and used it in doing malicious activities. Even a family member is at risk of identity theft.
What can you do protect your personal identity?
There are many “common sense” ways to protect your valuable personal information. One is shred or burn credit card statements and other documents that display your personal information. These documents contain your personal details like name, home address and credit card number and throwing them away without destroying is like giving keys to a stranger. Don’t let other people see these kinds of information. If you need to throw them away, shred or burn them.
Another is you can subscribe to a company that can help protect your name like lifelock. Lifelock guarantees to protect your identity and covers you with their $1 Million Total Service Guarantee. Not only you can be sure that your name is protected, rest assured that your name maintains its integrity.
In this time where information is readily available to anyone who knows how to use a computer, security personal identity is a must. Everyone must know how to protect themselves from cybercrimes such as identity theft.
