Nokia Phones May Soon Be Linux-ed

This is an interesting article from pcworld.com about Nokia planning to integrate open source Linux into its mobile handsets to focus more on Internet capabilities of mobile devices. This is absolutely good news for those who want the power of Linux into their Nokia mobile phones.

Linux into mobile phone is not old news. As a matter of fact, Motorola, Nokia’s competitor in mobile phones, has already released Linux-based mobile phone into the market. One example is the Rokr-E2 phone, which is the upgraded version of my Motorola phone Rokr-E1.

Going back to Nokia, it has released several of its devices with Linux inside but these are the PDA-type devices like Internet tablets. Time will only tell when Nokia is going to release its first ever mobile phone with Linux! But on the bright side, a spokesperson for Nokia, Kari Tuutti, said that Nokia “will expand that range, and we believe that the role of Linux will grow”.

This is absolutely a good news to Nokia/Linux enthusiasts!
