Skype on Fedora Core 6
When I was at home, I accidentally browsed Skype.com which, according to their website, is software that lets you use your computer
and internet connection to communicate with anyone, anywhere in the world. Meaning, it allows you to make PC to landline or mobile phones at low price compared to standard global rates. Just purchase Skype credits to make global phone calls from your computer, to any phone around the world.

PC-to-PC calls are free so you do not have to buy credits if your contact is using Skype as well, much like Yahoo! Voice Chat. And the best part is, Skype offers download for different flavors of Linux. Look ma! No more compiling!*

Installing Skype on FC6 is hassle-free as long as you have the dependencies required by the software. I used rpm package for my FC6 and it installed perfectly after I downloaded the dependencies. To start using Skype, register for an account then login to your Skype client and start calling. Remember to setup your audio device so you can communicate well. To check your audio settings, there is a default contact named Test Call/Sound Test Service. Call this contact so you can check if your devices are working properly.
Add your contacts to your list so you can call them right away or initiate chats by pressing the green button and Skype will dial your friend’s name or number. To initiate chat, press the blue button and this will open the chat window.
