Hello,
In the past I thought having one of those 1$/month accounts at 3ix is fine, it works well.

In the meantime I found that if I download software packages (e.g. XOOPS) and install them on one of those cheap accounts hosted by 3ix.org then they are .htaccess blocked by the server.
Then the only thing you get out of it is a misconfiguration error.

To fix that you write in to host-care (3ix) explain everything and after loads of dragging of feet problems are sometimes solved.

I have installed XOOPS.
Got a misconfiguration error..
after long discussions 3ix adjusted it.
Then I installed some modules, because XOOPS without modules is basically useless.
Until today I am still talking to 3ix to get the settings fixed so that I can use the modules.

At 3ix too many people are involved and everything has to be explained to everyone from scratch.
So, I dont know when I will get my usually easy to install software running.

OK Kids... 3ix and I are at battle. Big Time. Ny customers site was up for one day then down for the next three. I had beta testers on 6 different IP's/ISP's with a total of 4 different platforms run into the same problem, on this particular domain.

Calling 3ix is pointless, so are emails, as they always return the "Site is working ok...check it now." Live chat proved the same for about the first ten minutes, then it became an issue of "Your IP is blocked." Asking how a half dozen IPs from different ISP could be blocked at the same time, their response was, "For security reasons, we randomly block groups of IP's" Nice.... black out a whole state? Unlikely.

When faced with a screen dump from network-tools, showing their Orlando Fla. servers timing out, they promply disconnected.

Upon reconnect the next day with live chat, I demanded my money back. Which they refused, stating I had uploaded malicious code to thier servers. Like, I'm prone to do that, since it helps my web design business so much.

Long and short... they are based out of Humble Texas. Which is in Harris County. (Houston area) I have forwarded a formal complaint to Harris County Consumer Fraud/Complaint and have sent them a copy of my FTP records and data uploaded to the site. I have also contacted the Texas State Attorney Generals Office Consumer Complaint Division with the same.

I encourage anyone who has had problems with 3ix to do the same. Below is some information on how to file a complaint with Harris County, as well as a link to the Texas AG Office.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The best way to file a Consumer Fraud complaint/report is to call (713) 755-5836 between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday and request that a complaint package be mailed to you. This package will have some written instructions and a one-page (front and back) form to be filled out and returned. Several members of the Consumer Fraud staff are bilingual (English and Spanish). Our forms are available in English and Spanish. Our staff is familiar with the types of matters that this division investigates and can provide additional information to assist you in filing your complaint, if needed. Since we are a criminal law enforcement agency, we cannot share with the public whether or not we have other complaints against the company or person you want to complain or inquire about."

Hung:

Sorry that you went through the same thing that most of us did with 3ix. They are scammers, IMO, and should be closed down immediately. If anyone knows how to request formal complaint against 3ix, let me know.

About your question about migrating your database, can you please provide specific details like what kind of database you are using (MySQL, MSSQL, etc). Also, are you using Wordpress, Typepad, Joomla, etc. on your site?

These info will help a lot in providing answers to your query. :)

Yep...seems that I have gained some of the same experience that many have had. Sold a package to a customer a week ago with hosting thru these hard-ons. One week later, 62% up time. My 78 year old father is more active.

Even though I live in Jersey, I have friends outside of Houston.

Too bad for 3ix.

The company I work for made the mistake of hosting a few client test sites with 3iX.

Our sites were infected on three different occasions. Malicious JavaScript was injected into our pages that added iframes linking out to the usual dodgy .ru domains hosting god know what malware.

When we spoke to 3iX support about this, they told us that the problem must have been vulnerabilities in our web pages that were being exploited. This is a fair enough conclusion to reach, except that these were *test* sites running off a domain that is completely unknown to any search engine or anyone other than 3iX, people who work in our company, and a small number of our clients.

When I asked 3iX how it could be that some anonymous hacker could have exploited vulnerabilities in web pages that - as far as the outside world is concerned - do not exist, they had no answer.

The fix that 3iX effected for us involved them restoring previously taken backups of our files without consulting me first, which resulted in my team losing a days worth of work.

When I complained about this, I received no response.

We have already found much better hosting than 3iX and we will be closing down our account and severing all contact with 3iX next month.

I used 3ix hosting but I have met two disappointments. First of them was that somebody broke into my web site and uploaded there some viagra shits and a virus, and second was that they are telling private things like EPP code in their chat and unblock domain for transfer without having any proof that they are really talking with the domain owner. Very unprofessional.

if 3ix is not good,
which reasonably priced web hosting company is good?

When I read that someone needs help installing ablog...then sure, it might be difficult to run an own website.

Once I had a problem with 3ix which was sending mail didnt work.
They fixed it in a short time.

I must agree, though, 3ix is not the fastest one.

[...] Having limited access to my account, I asked the support what is the reason why my account was suspended. The answer I got was “check your logs”. Being a good girl that I am, tried to download the logs only to find out that the archived logs are in .exe file. I asked the support where can I get my logs, I was pointed at my CPANEL account which is what I did. When I asked the support that I can’t see the logs because it was in .exe format, he just said “never mind”. Continuing with the isolation process, he asked me if I have scripts and cron jobs. I said that I definitely don’t have a cron job and scripts running, aside from those that are included in my wordpress installation and asked the support to give me what cron job he is seeing so I can check it. I didn’t get an answer to that. What I got was the mysterious cron job was removed and the site should be fine. It never happened. - 3ix is not a cheap hosting provider (PinoyTux) [...]
