I have noticed that lately, a lot of people are either pregnant or have given birth. Hollywood stars like Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie and Minnie Driver are now pregnant and still looking gorgeous even with that bulky tummy. New moms like Nicole Ritchie, Halle Berry and Jennifer Lopez are reported to be enjoying their newborn babies and being mothers to lovely babies.

I am also invited to attend the Christening of a lovely girl this coming Sunday since I was selected to be one of the kid’s godmother. Too bad I won’t be able to make it to the ceremony and reception because of work. But anyway, I still wish the very best to the beautiful baby and future godchild.

Babies are so wonderful because they are so cute and gentle and angel-like. But they are very susceptible to many kinds of diseases because their bodies are not yet fully developed. But because they can’t talk yet, mothers have to rely on instincts to know if their baby is sick. Even doctors can’t tell sickness just by looking at them. The most difficult kind of sickness for babies however are those that shows no physical symptoms and often result to death because of late discovery of the sickness. Sudden infant death syndrome, a case where a death of a child aged one month to a year is sudden and unexplainable, is feared by most of the parents. There are numerous cases where parents undergo psychological damage caused by sudden loss of a child.

There are also diseases that can be cured if diagnosed early. One of these is kernicterus, a disease that damages the brain caused by untreated jaundice. Early diagnosis increases the chance of the baby’s recovery and no symptom should be overlooked. Some cases however, there is a medical malpractice involved causing death of an innocent child.

If you have a newborn, always remember to follow the doctor’s instruction, eat well if you are breastfeeding, and nurture your baby not only physically but emotionally as well. Babies are gifts from heaven so let us give them all the love they deserve.
